MALAYSIA LNG TO SUPPLY LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS TO SHIKOKU ELECTRIC

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsMalaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of PETRONAS, has signed a Confirmation of Intent (COI) with Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc (Shikoku Electric) to supply up to 420,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 15 years beginning 2010, with an option to extend for another five years. Shikoku Electric is a new addition to MLNG’s list of Japanese customers.The LNG will be supplied to Shikoku Electric from the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak. The LNG will be transported from Bintulu to Shikoku Electric’s new receiving terminal in Sakaide, Japan on ex-ship basis by LNG tankers owned and operated by MISC Bhd., a subsidiary of PETRONAS. The receiving terminal, currently under construction and due for completion in 2010, is owned by Sakaide LNG Co., Inc., a joint venture between Shikoku Electric, Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. and Shikoku Gas Co., Ltd.
Shikoku Electric is the eighth largest power company in Japan, supplying electricity to more than four million people in Shikoku Island. For the first time beginning 2010 this sole supplier of electricity to the island will use LNG as fuel in its power plants. MLNG was selected as the only supplier of LNG for Shikoku Electric from a list of five other LNG companies.

Installation of ANPG-A platform was my first assignment on Offshore Facilities Installation. Here is an article i found about the ANGSI Complex :
The first commercial hydrocarbons from the Angsi field were produced in December 2001 via the Angsi complex, which comprises a central processing platform bridge-linked to a wellhead platform. Production rates are expected to climb from an initial 15,000b/d of oil and 60mmcfd of gas to peak volumes of 65,000b/d and 450mmcfd.

Year 2007 to 2009 will be a buzy years for Offshore Constructions Contractor (Those who win the Year 2007 to 2009 contracts in Malaysian water). Major clients are PCSB (Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd.), SSB (Sabah Sarawak Shell Berhad) & EMEPMI (ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc.). SapuraCrest Petroleum Berhad is eyeing for all the works and we yet to know who is winning the bid. SapuraCrest Petroleum Berhad is also interested to bid the Turkmenistan Block 1 Development Project (Magtymguly Drilling Platform (MDP-A) Transportation & Installation Services. The works location will be in the Caspian Sea, which is a new gray area for SapuraCrest Petroleum Berhad operations.
The Caspian Sea Presents a unique set of issues when it comes to project execution. Several of these issues are;
  • The land-locked nature of the sea
  • The canals that link the Caspian to open seas routes operate for only a limited time during the year, due to freezing conditions in winter.

Just coming back from Jakarta. Spent 2 days meeting with Sarku-Tripatra Consortium & Star Energy Indonesia. The technical meeting is about;
  • Installation of 500m 6″ Rigid pipeline (Original design was Flexible Flowlines) from KRA-2x Subsea wellhead to KRA-S (South) subsea wellhead.
  • Installation of 4 nos of spools tie in at KRA-2x & KRA-S
  • Pre-Commissioning of the newly installed 6″ line.
  • Assistance during introduction of hydrocarbon to the newly installed pipeline.

Eugene Island is an oil field in the gulf of Mexico, 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana. It was discovered in 1973 and began producing 15,000 barrels of oil a day which then slowed to about 4,000 barrels in 1989.

But then for no logical reason whatsoever, production spiked back up to 13,000 barrels a day.
What the researchers found when they analyzed the oil field with time lapse 3-D seismic imaging is that there was an unexplained deep fault in the bottom corner of the computer scan, which showed oil gushing in from a previously unknown deep source and migrating up through the rock to replenish the existing supply.
Furthermore, the analysis of the oil now being produced at Eugene Island shows that its age is geologically different from the oil produced there after the refinery first opened. Suggesting strongly that it is now emerging from a different, unexplained source.

Fresh New Content; Offshore Construction Experience …

Due to certain restrictions, i’ve been stop writing about my experiences and all previous content have been removed for further review.  From this point of time, i’ve been given a little bit of Freedom from my employer Sigur Ros Sdn. Bhd. to write and share my experiences. Lets start with knowing Sigur Ros Sdn. Bhd.  (www.sgrsb.com).  Sigur Ros Sdn. Bhd. is the FIRST Malaysian Offshore Construction Company penetrating Turkmenistan and my be also in Caspian Sea.  Sigur Ros owned a shallow water pipelayer barge Arawana (Specification can be downloaded at www.sgrsb.com).  Currently Sigur Ros is executing a major Offshore Installation contract in Caspian Sea.  One of the major strength of Sigur Ros will be its run by very experience professional (the owner it self start their career as an Offshore Installation Engineer).

14th January 2009 I was assigned to ensure work site preparation are in order and safe for the activity in compliance to the PCSB SHe and work pack requirement.
The challenge of this activity is performing welding on the life 2″ pipe which carries aproximately 40 KB/D liquid (crude, gas and water) at 10000 kpa pressure.To ensure this activity can be perform safely the pipeline flow rate have to be constant, post weld temperature are maintain at 150 degrees C and not exceeding 250 degree C.
